Osteoporosis therapy with Spinomed back orthoses

Biofeedback – what is it?

Spinomed back orthoses are effective primarily because of the “biofeedback principle”. But what is it exactly?

Biofeedback is a procedure used in behavioural medicine that involves the feedback of physical signals that commonly occur unconsciously.

With unique biofeedback methods, these types of functions become consciously perceptible. This way, patients can learn to use them for their benefit.

What is the effect of biofeedback on osteoporosis therapy?

If osteoporosis patients get into an incorrect posture (hunchback), the orthosis automatically reminds them of the correct posture using gentle pressure.

The users tighten the muscles in the torso area and straighten up their upper body using muscle strength. The orthosis is a training device for building up the trunk muscles.

Osteoporosis specialist Professor Helmut W. Minne and medi have jointly developed the Spinomed and Spinomed active orthoses.

The elastic materials of the Spinomed back orthoses, together with the back splint, exert noticeable pulling forces on the pelvic and shoulder area.

Studies demonstrate the effect of Spinomed back orthoses.

The back orthoses strengthen the muscles and relieves pain as our tendency to sway and risk falling is limited, reducing the risk of subsequent fractures.

Randomised clinical trials (1 & 2*) confirmed the muscle-strengthening effect of Spinomed and Spinomed active.

The stomach muscles were strengthened by up to 56 per cent.

The kyphosis angle were reduced by up to 11 per cent.

The pain was alleviated by up to 47 per cent.

Daily restrictions are reduced by up to 54 per cent.

General physical health is increased by up to 18 per cent.

Spinomed back orthoses help to reduce the risk of falling and, therefore, the risk of further fractures, as they reduce body swaying by up to 25 per cent.

Scientific Osteological Societies (DVO) refers to the scientifically proven efficiency and identical mode of action of Spinomed and Spinomed active in its therapy guideline.
